GENERAL MECHANICAL REPAIR FAQs

How often should I get my brakes checked?

At regular intervals. Your brakes are your vehicle’s stopping power and it is important to ensure they are functioning at their best. Our team inspect every aspect of your brakes so that your vehicle can continue to stop safely and will always advise on any parts that need replacement or repair.

What is included in a Brake Inspection at CVS?

As part of every Brake Inspection, we check the following parts:

  • pads (and/or shoes)
  • calipers
  • rotors (and/or drums)
  • wheel cylinders
  • hardware (springs and adjusters)
  • hoses
  • parking brake cables
  • fluid condition
  • wheel bearings and grease seals
  • master cylinder fluid exchange

What should I do when a check engine light appears on my dashboard?

There are several reasons why a check engine light might be displayed on your dashboard from minor fixes to serious issues which could damage your car beyond repair so this always needs investigating at the nearest opportunity. Ensure that you are safe behind the wheel by bringing your car in for a multi-point inspection.

The oil light on my dashboard is displaying or blinking?

When the oil light on your dashboard comes on, this usually signals that your vehicle has low oil pressure. This drop in oil pressure could be down to a few things: you are low on oil, it needs replacing as it is old and dirty or you have an oil leak. It may require investigation so book it in or get it recovered to CVS.

Is my vehicle safe to drive with the oil light on?

Generally speaking, no! The engine needs oil to lubricate the moving parts and cool down. If there is not enough oil, the engine will overheat and can result in irreparable damage. If you see the oil warning light come on, the best thing to do is to pull over and turn off the engine immediately. Check the oil level and add more if necessary. If your car doesn’t have enough oil, it is not safe to continue driving.

When should I change my tyres?

You need to change your tyres when they reach the legal limit or if they sustain any irreparable damage.
